Faced with having to support his new family, a black South African migrant worker joins the North African Allied campaign during World War II, believing his effort will be rewarded financially and earn him greater social standing. Distinguishing himself bravely, he earns a historic nomination for the Victoria Cross for valour – and an abrupt education in being a black hero in a white man’s war. Based on actual events, this epic story of a forgotten South African hero is also a definitive film account of the 1942 Battle of Tobruk.
